Image of God – A Pattern for us
“In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.” (2 Corinthians 4:4)
“Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.” (1 Tim 1:16)
“And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him.” (Colossians 3:10).
The old man thinks in wickedness and folly, after the “god of this world”, the veil of the flesh, which has blinded the masses. All of humankind have sinful flesh (James 1:14-15). Sinful flesh refers to the natural tendencies of mankind to go contrary to divine principles (Rom. 7:15-25). The new man thinks of the spirit, with God’s thoughts and ways on his mind, and the new man makes every effort to make them his ways, mortifying his members “fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry” (Colossians 3:5).
